Jon Gruden will not be coaching the Eagles, it appears.

The NFL coaching carousel is an interesting time of year; all sorts of rumors come to the surface. It seems like there are more rumors during this time of year than there are during free agency.

The Philadelphia Eagles are one of the teams who are searching for a head coach. They are looking high and low to try and find Chip Kelly’s replacement, as they should.

Jon Gruden has ties to the Eagles organization, as he served as the team’s offensive coordinator from 1995-97. From there, he would move on to become head coach of the Oakland Raiders before moving on to win a Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

But he’s also very well paid by ESPN to say things like “Spider 2 Y Banana,” which makes his supposed interest in the Eagles head coaching job interesting.

"One other name has sort of surfaced in the Eagles’ coaching search: Jon Gruden.Gruden is doing his biennial return-to-coaching tire-kicking. Whether he’s serious this time or just needs his ego massaged still is unclear. But a league source told the Daily News that he has informed Lurie, through an intermediary, that he is interested in the Eagles’ head-coaching job."

However, shortly after the this news began to swirl around the internet sending some Eagles fans into a craze, veteran Philadelphia reporter Howard Eskin dashed those hopes with a single tweet.

Yeah, that went out the window pretty quickly, as rumors that surround a return to the NFL from Gruden generally do.

Gruden will be calling the AFC Wild Card game for ESPN Saturday afternoon.
