MLB Trade Rumors: Nationals trade Drew Storen to Blue Jays for Ben Revere
The Washington Nationals have traded relief pitcher Drew Storen to the Toronto Blue Jays for outfielder Ben Revere
The Washington Nationals have been looking to add an outfielder this offseason to help replace Denard Span. They’ve also been looking for a leadoff hitter to replace him and ease the burden on young outfielder Michael Taylor. The Nationals have found their guy in Ben Revere.
They have traded him to the Toronto Blue Jays for troubled relief pitcher Drew Storen.
The Nationals are getting an outfielder who should help form a platoon with Werth in right field and it gives them options regarding what they can do at center field. They could easily move Bryce Harper there and then go with a platoon of Werth and Taylor in right with Revere starting in left field.
Revere batted .319 last year with an OPS of .734. He makes a lot of contact and he is very fast so he tends to get on base quite a bit despite having below average plate discipline.
The Blue Jays get a solid relief pitcher, albeit one that is a bit troubled, in Drew Storen. Storen was phenomenal for the Nationals last season in the closer role before the Nationals traded for Jonathan Papelbon and forced him into a setup role.
