North Dakota State quarterback Carson Wentz mowed over a defender and stretched for an 11-yard touchdown in the FCS title game

The North Dakota State Bison got a huge lift for their offense coming into Saturday afternoon’s FCS National Championship game against the Jacksonville State Gamecocks. Though they went 13-2 on the season coming into the contest, they had been doing so for most of the season without their star quarterback and NFL Draft prospect Carson Wentz. However, Wentz made his first start since mid-October in the title game and looked like he hadn’t missed a beat.

Wentz already had a passing touchdown and a couple of nice drives under his belt midway through the second quarter when the Bison got the ball back off of a beautiful interception. After a short drive, Wentz decided to use his legs as he took the read option outside to the left. He broke through a tackle on the edge and then stretched out his 6-6 frame to get across the goal line for the 11-yard touchdown run:

Wentz looked every bit like a quality pro prospect and like a player who had played every snap this season in the first half on Saturday. That rushing touchdown put the Bison up 17-0 and left them in the driver’s seat in their quest for a fifth consecutive FCS title.
