Bengals safety Shawne Williams laid out Steelers wide receiver Markus Wheaton.

This game is nasty. Wheaton, while running a deep crossing route, got laid out by Bengals safety Shawne Williams. In a game that’s been devoid of points, that’s been one of the few exciting moments so far. However, give credit to Wheaton for somehow holding onto the ball. The catch still resulted in a field goal to put the Steelers up 6-0:

This isn’t the first sign of brutality in the game so far as earlier, Reggie Nelson and Mike Munchak engaged in an MMA fight. Perhaps this was to be expected between two teams that have developed one of the best rivalries in the league.

The Bengals are lucky to be down by just six points at halftime despite McCarron’s three turnovers. He hasn’t been a turnover machine either – the three in this game are the first of McCarron’s career. On the bright side, if the Bengals do win this game, there won’t be a quarterback controversy. Both teams will look to get their offenses going once the second half starts. Amazingly, through one and a half games, none of the home teams in the playoffs have scored a point.
