Ex-New York Giants’ head coach Tom Coughlin is set to speak with the Philadelphia Eagles regarding the vacant head coaching position.

This would be a huge head coach hiring if it were possible. Black Monday was rather tempered than usual, Tom Coughlin as the Giants’ head coach was the biggest tragedy. After 12 years at the helm, Coughlin resigned from his duties as head coach. He had enjoyed significant success in New York, including two Super Bowl victories. However, three straight losing seasons were the cause of much scrutiny over his role at the franchise, and he ultimately felt compelled to resign after yet another disappointing year.

What the future holds for both the Giants and Tom Coughlin remains to be seen. However, per Ian Rapoport, Tom Coughlin is to have preliminary talks with the vacant head coaching job at the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles fired their head coach, Chip Kelly, after three highly controversial years in Philadelphia.

Kelly had repeated busts up with players on the roster and was a major influence in the loss of some major offensive firepower in the likes of DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin and LeSean McCoy. Kelly’s reign is now at an end, and the Eagles are in the search for a head coach. Tom Coughlin is one of the most experienced names out there and would be more than an intriguing appointment if made.

Whether the Eagles and Coughlin can come to an agreement is far from decided. However, it is interesting that Coughlin is still interested in NFL head coaching jobs, and one within the division at that.
