Ben Roethlisberger has suffered a sprained AC joint during the Steelers’ win over the Bengals in the NFL wildcard round.

Ben Roethlisberger is one of the toughest guys in football, and if he is to take the field against the Denver Broncos next weekend, he will have to display all of that toughness. In the Steelers’ feisty win over the Bengals, Roethlisberger has suffered a sprained AC joint, and is now a major doubt to take the field against Denver next weekend. With the potential loss of Antonio Brown as well, the absence of Big Ben would be a major blow for Pittsburgh.

It was a remarkable performance by Roethlisberger on Saturday night. He left the game midway through the third quarter, and was carted off to the locker room for further inspection. At that point, the Steelers looked comfortable with a 15-0 lead. While their star quarterback was out of the game, Pittsburgh surrendered 16 straight points, and Big Ben came back into the game late in the fourth quarter with his side one point down. He then courageously led the Steelers down the field, with the aid of a couple of personal foul penalties to win the game with a final field goal.

However, his heroics may well be his last act of the 2015 season. An MRI scheduled for Sunday will reveal more information on the extent of his injury. However, he is a serious doubt to make the field next week and his absence, alongside Antonio Brown’s likely joining him on the sidelines, could be more than just the end of his season, but Pittsburgh’s altogether.
