Gonzalo Higuain beat three defenders and a goalkeeper to score a stunning goal against Frosinone

With the likes of Fiorentina, Inter, and Roma, all dropping points already over the weekend, Napoli was in a great position to take the lead atop the Serie A table against Frosinone on Sunday. A victory would have made them the Italian winter champions – the team with the most points halfway through the season – with 41 points from 19 matches.

It didn’t take long for the Partenopei to find the opener at the Stadio Matusa, with Raul Albiol finding the back of the net off of a corner kick. The club’s Argentine international, Gonzalo Higuain, would then earn and convert a penalty kick for his club when he was taken down in the box to make it 2-0.

However, Napoli nor Higuain were done there. The team’s captain, Marek Hamsik, made it 3-0 in the second half, but just one minute later Higuain stole the show. The 28-year-old scored his Serie A leading 18th goal of the campaign, by beating three defenders and Frosinone’s goalkeeper, Massimo Zappino.

Napoli have now won four straight matches in all competitions. They were the only team on the entire continent to win all their group stage matches in European competition, and lead the Italian top flight at the halfway point. Maurizio Sarri has his team firing on all cylinders, scoring the most goals in the league with brilliant performances from the likes of the aforementioned Higuain and Hamsik.

They will be in action next against Sassuolo next Saturday afternoon at 2:45 p.m. ET.
