The Brooklyn Nets have fired head coach Lionel Hollins, while general manager Billy King has stepped down.

The Brooklyn Nets are one of the worst teams in the National Basketball Association, and ownership has seen enough. On Sunday morning, Mikhail Prokhorov announced that head coach Lionel Hollins was relieved of his duties while general manager Billy King has stepped down.

Brooklyn was expected to be bad this season, but sitting with a 10-27 record. That mark is better than only the Philadelphia 76ers, who are rolling with a 4-35 mark.

Hollins was in his second year with the Nets after being with the Memphis Grizzlies for years. In Memphis, Hollins reached the playoffs in each of the past three seasons but could not get to the NBA Finals, ultimately costing him his job. Last year, Hollins debuted in Brooklyn and had a 38-44 record, flaming out in the first round.

While the record is nothing impressive, Hollins really has little talent to work with. The Nets were destroyed as a franchise when King decided to trade multiple first-round picks for Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett, two players who never did much for the Nets in their old age.

Brooklyn has a very long rebuilding process ahead of it, mostly thanks to King, who should have been fired years ago.
