The Blues are considering options in a potential Jonathan Drouin acquisition

Sportsnet and Hockey Night in Canada analyst, Damien Cox, sent out a tweet echoing what was reported by Elliotte Friedman during the second intermission of the weekly telecast. Friedman said that the St. Louis Blues might offer forward Robby Fabbri to the Tampa Bay Lightning for forward Jonathan Drouin.

It was also suggested that defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk might also be involved in a deal.

In addition to the Lightning trying to sign their superstar forward Steven Stamkos, they have to try and figure out what to do with Drouin. At the age of 20, Drouin has been sent to the American Hockey League and word has recently leaked out that he would like to be dealt from Tampa. In 89 career regular season games wearing the Lightning colors, he has put up 40 points.

A couple of weeks short of his 20th birthday, Fabbri has 14 points in the first 38 games of his career. The Blues first round pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft has been a great addition to the Blues defense core.

Shattenkirk is a few weeks short of his 27th birthday and has 25 points in his first 34 regular season games  in St. Louis.

The situations around Drouin and Stamkos will have the focus squarely on Tampa Bay General Manager Steve Yzerman. He is in a difficult predicament and needs to get things straightened out for the better of the Lightning future.

The NHL Trade Deadline is February 29 and a lot has already happened. The Columbus Blue Jackets dealt their forward Ryan Johansen to the Nashville Predators for defenseman Seth Jones.

Exciting times are ahead for the National Hockey League.
