The NHL has announced that Alex Ovechkin, Petr Mrazek, and Tyson Barrie have been named the three stars of the week

There were several huge performances from NHL players last week. The NHL must have had a tough time narrowing it down to three players, but they have done so. Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin, Detroit Red Wings goalie Petr Mrazek, and Colorado Avalanche defenseman Tyson Barrie have been named the three stars of the week.

Alex Ovechkin is the first star of the week after becoming the fifth-fastest player in NHL history to get to 500 career goals. Alex Ovechkin had a league-high five goals in four games, including four during a weekend back-to-back against the Rangers and Senators. He currently leads the league in goals scored with 26 goals and has 39 points in 41 games this season.

Petr Mrazek is the second star of the week after going 3-0-0 with an unbelievable GAA of 0.67, allowing just two goals in three games. The goaltender is beginning to emerge as the Red Wings clear number one goaltender. He has a .930 save percentage on the season and is a major reason for Detroit’s success despite losing head coach Mike Babcock to the Maple Leafs.

Tyson Barrie is the third star of the week after accumulating six points in four games last week as the Avalanche went 3-1-0. He had four points against the Los Angeles Kings in Colorado’s 4-1 win over them. He currently has 29 points in 39 games this season. He had game winning goals against the Kings and the Predators.
