Electronic Arts appears to be considering the return of their popular NCAA Football video game franchise in the near future.

The last edition of EA Sports’ NCAA Football video game franchise was released in July of 2013, but the series has been dormant for nearly three years due to various lawsuits. Now, there may be new hope that the title may be returning to a video game store near you.

Long thought dead after a lawsuit was filed against the NCAA for marketing player likeness without permission and compensation, the company posted a video on its Facebook page that may have fans hoping for a return of the hallmark franchise.

Here is the link to the EA’s NCAA Football page.

If one is to interpret this posting for what it is, it looks like the series may not be dead after all. That’s good news for those sports fans that don’t care much for the NFL product and prefer the college game instead. Throw in the nuances on the college playoffs and the game could have a whole new system to play with.

The franchise has been in limbo since former players sued the NCAA for profiting off of their likenesses and names without properly compensating the players. Jersey sales were said to be the primary factor, but use of their likenesses in video games were also called into question. As such, EA stopped producing the game for two years, but made sure to extend their rights to produce further editions through 2017.

Of course to do that, the NCAA would likely be forced to compensate the players accordingly, whether now or after their amateur status is exhausted.
