An updated look at the injuries relevant to fantasy hockey for the week of January 11.

As the NHL season rolls on injuries start to become a bigger part of the action. Some teams have been luckier than others but at some point throughout the year it is something every team will have to deal with.

The past week was rather harsh with the injury bug showing up in a big way. While not every injury will have a major impact, there are a few that will.

Not every injured player around the NHL will be found below. Instead, you’ll find the late updates on injuries that will have the biggest impact in the fantasy hockey world.

Shayne Gostisbehere- Philadelphia Flyers (D): The rookie defenseman has had a fantastic season in Philadelphia thus far but is unfortunately now dealing with an ailment. He was hurt on January 7 in a game with the Wild and has yet to return to action. The only news is that it is a lower-body issue and for now he’s considered day-to-day.

Paul Stastny- St. Louis Blues (C): Stastny was hurt in the first period of Friday’s game and didn’t return to the ice. He missed Saturday’s game and will be reevaluated. An update is expected early this week, but for now all that is know is that he’s dealing with an upper-body issue.

Jake Allen-St. Louis Blue (G): The Blues were hit hard with the injury bug on Friday night with three players leaving the game. One of those was goalie Jake Allen. Nothing much is known except that it’s a knee injury. He was reportedly seen after the game without any type of brace on but there has not been an update and he is listed as day-to-day for now.

Jay Bouwmeester- St. Louis Blues (D): Bouwmeester was the third Blue that exited Friday’s game against Anaheim, and while he’s not a huge factor in fantasy hockey, he has been useful in the right matchup. He is out with an upper-body injury and is going to be reevaluated back in St. Louis. Expect an update on his status early this week.

John Carlson-Washington Capitals (D): It was expected that Carlson would be back in the lineup this past week but that didn’t happen. He has been skating with the team however and seems to be nearing a return. He didn’t play Saturday or Sunday but might be ready for Thursday’s tilt with Vancouver. He’s been out since December 31 with a lower-body issue and for now remains on IR.

Mike Cammalleri- New Jersey Devils (W): Cammalleri has not played in a game since December 30 after suffering an upper-body injury. The specifics on the nature of the injury have not been released but according to the team he has been able to skate on his own. The latest release from January 10 stated that Cammalleri could return later this week so be sure to monitor is status.

Jannik Hansen- Vancouver Canucks (W): Hansen left Vancouver’s game on Wednesday with an upper-body injury. He has since been placed on injured reserve and there’s no official timetable on his return.

David Krejci-Boston Bruins (C): The Bruins are currently on a five-game road trip and  Krejci didn’t make the trip. He’s been out since December 27 when he suffered an upper-body injury. For now, he’s still on injured reserve.

Tyler Ennis-Buffalo Sabres (W): The latest update on the upper body injury Ennis is dealing with is that he is officially listed as week-to-week. He’s dealt with injuries all season and this latest one seems like it will keep him out for a at least another month.

Jiri Hudler-Calgary Flames (W): The update on Hudler’s lower-body injury that he suffered on January 2 is that it’s a groin issue. He recently had an MRI but there hasn’t been any word on the results. For now consider Hudler out for at least another week.

Phil Di Giuseppe-Carolina Hurricanes (W): Di Giuseppe was hurt on in a game on January 2 and at the time it wasn’t clear if he was dealing with a head or neck injury. It’s since been confirmed that he has a concussion. Head injuries are tricky, so as of now, there is no word on when he’ll be back. Consider Di Giuseppe out indefinitely.

Curtis McElhinney- Columbus Blue Jackets (G): McElhinney left a game on January 2 with what was first thought to be a knee injury. It’s since been revealed that he is dealing with a sprained ankle. He was put on injured reserve on January 4 and is still out for an undisclosed amount of time.

Connor McDavid- Edmonton Oilers (C): McDavid is still recovering from his broken clavicle. He’s been out since November 3 and has started to practice with the team. The latest update is that he won’t rejoin the Oilers before the all-star break, meaning the earliest he will return is February.

Nick Foligno- Columbu Blue Jackets (W): Foligno had to leave Friday’s game after taking a big hit on his blindside. He has been placed on injured reserve with what’s being called an upper-body injury. There is no word of when he will be back.

Patrick Elias–New Jersey Devils (W): There is still no update on Elias and the knee injury he is dealing with. He hasn’t started skating yet but appears to be making some progress. Don’t expect him back for at least a few weeks.

Sergei Bobrovsky–Columbus Blue Jackets (G): Bobrovsky, who was placed back on IR three days after being taken off, is still out with a groin injury. He has now been on injured reserve since January 2 and there has been no update of his status or when he might be back in action.

Cam Fowler-Anaheim Ducks (D): There hasn’t been an update on Fowler other than to say that he’s out until sometime in February. He injured his knee on December 27 and is on injured reserve.

Mike Smith-Arizona Coyotes (G): Smith has been on IR since December 12 with a lower-body issue. He had core muscle surgery on December 15 and the updated timetable put his return at late February or early March. There hasn’t been an update since the news last week that he was back on the ice skating again.

Ondrej Pavelec-Winnipeg Jets (G): Pavelec still has not returned from the knee injury that he suffered in late November. There hasn’t been a lot of information coming out of Winnipeg but it does sound like a return could be in the near future for the starting netminder.

Carey Price-Montreal Canadiens (G): The initial timetable put Price’s return sometime in mid-January. However, Montreal announced that Price will not return before the all-star break, meaning he is still likely a few weeks away from a return to the ice.
