Mikhail Prokhorov doesn’t seem very impressed with the Nets
By Taylor Smith
When Mikhail Prokhorov bought the Nets back in 2010, many thought the club had the potential become one of the NBA’s landmark franchises. With a young, bold owner willing to spare no expense in the pursuit of success in the country’s biggest media market, how could they fail!?
Well, not even six full years later, it seems safe to say that Prokhorov’s Nets have been a failure. With the team off to a 10-27 start to this season, Brooklyn parted ways with head coach Lionel Hollins and GM Billy King on Sunday. With a roster headed nowhere and a new front office regime imminent, the Nets find themselves in the unenviable position of a team that doesn’t seem to be getting better any time soon.
Still, hope springs eternal. Or…maybenot. Monday night, the Nets played their first game in the post-King/Hollins era, with interim head coach Tony Brown in charge as Brooklyn took on the Spurs. Prokhorov was in attendance, but it seems as though the new Nets may not be much more entertaining than the old Nets (via @liam_bp):
Those poor, poor Nets.
