Don’t get excited yet, but goalie Carey Price was skating on Tuesday

TSN.ca is reporting that on Tuesday, there was a welcome sight for the fans and team of the Montreal Canadiens. Their starting goaltender, Carey Price, returned to the ice for a skate. Before the fans of the original six team get overly elated, Price was seen skating without full equipment along with head athletic therapist Graham Rynbend. There is no mention whether any of his teammates were around.

There’s no question that the Montreal netminder is one of the best in the National Hockey League. The 28 year old has fallen on bad times recently after sustaining a lower body injury in November that placed him on the sidelines. The former 5th overall pick in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft has been amazing in Montreal. He was the winner of the Vezina, Ted Lindsay, Jennings and the Hart Trophies in 2015. He currently holds the record as the only netminder to win these trophies in one season. The one trophy that he still covets is a Stanley Cup.

This season, Price has a record of 10-2-0 and has two shutouts. The Canadiens had an extremely promising start to their season, going 10-2-0 during the month of October and heading into November with 20 points. At the conclusion of the month of November, they had 39 points. Heading into games on January 12, they have earned only 10 points since December 1.

The Canadiens have not made any knee-jerk quick trades to replace their superstar between the pipes. Since Price’s injury, they have gone with a series of goaltenders. The two men given the biggest responsibility have been Mike Condon and the recently traded Dustin Tokarski who was dealt to the

Anaheim Ducks

. The Canadiens did move forward Zack Kassian to the

Edmonton Oilers

for goalie Ben Scrivens. Condon and Scrivens appear to be handling the job in the meantime, with Price on the sidelines.

The Canadiens have not won the Stanley Cup since the 1992-93 campaign over the Los Angeles Kings and they are trying to win their 25th Stanley Cup with goaltender Price and defenseman PK Subban as key men on their roster.

The NHL Trade Deadline is February 29 and, while the Canadiens are patiently waiting for Price to recover, there’s always pressure on the Montreal hockey club to win.

If any extensive losing streak occurs, fans may push General Manager Marc Bergevin to be proactive adding to their lineup.
