The Cavaliers have traded Joe Harris to the Orlando Magic for two draft picks

The Cleveland Cavaliers have needed to clear cap space so that they can upgrade their team since the beginning of the season. One of their best bargaining chips in that regard has been shooting guard Joe Harris. The Cavs have been looking for a taker for the guard to clear some cap space. The Cavaliers have agreed to send Harris to the Orlando Magic in exchange for two protected draft picks.

This trade is a nice one for the Cavaliers. Joe Harris, as talented as he is, didn’t have a spot on the Cavs. They already have J.R. Smith and Shumpert as options at shooting guard. Harris doesn’t bring anything to the table that Shumpert doesn’t at this stage of his career. The Cavaliers also get two potential bargaining pieces with two future draft picks. The cap space should be extremely useful as well. Look for them to make a move.

The Magic get a solid young player in Harris. He’s relatively cheap and he’ll get a chance to show what he can do with the Magic. The Magic have quietly built a solid young core of players. It’s not likely that the protected picks are going to amount to much.

It’s surprising that the Cavaliers were able to get that much for Harris, but Harris is a talented guy who has deserved a chance to show what he can do in the NBA. He gets a chance to do that in Orlando.
