Florida Panthers and Vancouver Canucks end their game with a brawl

The Florida Panthers played a road game against the Vancouver Canucks on Monday night.

Heading into the scheduled games on January 12, the Panthers have been the hottest team in the National Hockey League. They have been incredible as they are winners of 12 of their last 13 games. Their most recent loss came at the hands of the Canucks at the Rogers Arena in British Columbia.

Florida is currently sitting with 57 points after earning a point in a 3-2 overtime loss. The winning goal was scored by the Canucks Daniel Sedin at 2:21 of overtime. You would think that once the goal was scored, both teams would head to their dressing rooms gracefully. Guess again!

According to TSN.ca, after the goal was scored both teams engaged in a lot of pushing one another. The initial combatants were tough guy Derek Dorsett of the Vancouver Canucks and backup goalie Al Montoya of the Florida Panthers.

Former Canucks and current Panthers goalie, Roberto Luongo, was quoted as saying that there were Canucks players who came to their bench and tried to punch one of their players. He says, “One of their guys came over to our bench and tried to punch one of our guys,”  whereas Dorsett claims that a Panther player said something to Henrik Sedin that he thought was ‘unacceptable’.

Seeing hockey players engage in fights is one thing but after the game even the coaches of both teams engaged in heated discussions with head coach Gerard Gallant, of the Panthers, arguing with the Canucks assistant Glen Gulutzan. It was definitely a sight to see.

The Canucks are not unfamiliar with this type of behavior as they were involved in a similar activity against the Calgary Flames on January 18, 2014 at the Rogers Arena. In that game,  former head coach John Tortorella tried to fight the entire Flames organization during an intermission.
