If you want a personal imprint on the Sacramento Kings new court, all you need to do is donate old shoes.
Sacramento is collecting old shoes tomorrow, January 13th, from former and current Kings players and fans, and recycling the shoes into rubber grind, per NBA.com. The grind will be combined with Nike Grind and will help form the foam layer for the court.
It’s a pretty cool and unique opportunity for fans to say they helped form the new court for the Kings, and a good way for old shoes to be recycled. But the most interesting part of the story is the fact that Sacramento is getting Kings legends to donate shoes. And it’d be even cooler if the team could get the shoes used in big games.
Could Chris Webber produce the shoes from his 51-point, 26 rebound game against the Pacers? Or maybe Vlade Divac could donate the shoes he wore when he scored a career-high 34 points against the Suns in 2001. These are unlikely possibilities, but it sure would be cool for the team to weave some of the history of the franchise into the new court.
