What are the pros and cons behind the addition of a Big 12 Championship football game?

The idea of a conference championship game with a league of just 10 teams strikes most college football fans as odd. It might become much more normal if the Big 12 moves forward with being the first league to take advantage of the newly adopted Division-I Council proposal that will allow 10 team leagues to have championship games for the first time.

The proposal was adopted today, but Big 12 Commisioner Bob Bowlsby stopped short of saying it was a lock that we’d see a Big 12 Title game in the near future. Instead, he wants to lead the league to evaluate the pros and cons of creating a championship game.

We thought we’d go ahead and take that job on for him. It’s certainly an interesting debate whether not a league that only features 10 teams really needs to add the extra layer of a conference championship game. Still, this is a world where money talks and it would undoubtedly bring in some extra revenue for the Big 12.

While the money would be nice, it won’t come free. There are definitely some drawbacks to the game as well. Read on to find out five pros and cons for the potential creation of a Big 12 Championship Game.
