Hugh Jackman Makes His Bid For Bond, Perhaps

A recent video on social media shows Hugh Jackman channeling his inner Bond. Is this Jackman putting his name into the ring of potential Bond actors?

Hugh Jackman is at a turning point in his career. He has made it clear that he will not be reprising his career-making role of Wolverine once he has finished working on a third Wolverine stand-alone picture. The 47 year old A-list actor could go anywhere from here.

But does this anywhere involve James Bond?

A video posted by Jackman on Instagram and Twitter shows him donning his best Bond impersonation. While sipping the spy’s staple martini drink, he declares: “shaken, not stirred.” The video itself is also cheekily seven seconds long.

Is this Jackman submitting an open audition for the part?

Speculation over Daniel Craig’s return to the franchise has been buzzing since before the release of Spectre. Now Sony and Eon Productions might have a decision to make. They will certainly want Craig back if he is game for a fifth film, but, if not, it is open season for potential Bond actors. And Jackman has already made it clear that he is game for the role.

One more wrinkle: Jackman has been approached for the role of Bond in the past. Before Craig took over, Jackman was asked if he would like to play the part, but he turned it down to reprise his role of Wolverine in X2.

Of course, this was years ago. Given age is a definite factor in James Bond, perhaps Eon will go younger if Craig chooses not to return.

Still, Jackman makes a convincing argument.
