10 biggest bargains in MLB free agency
7. Justin Morneau
Concussion problems plagued the former American League MVP’s 2015 season. Morneau was limited to 168 at-bats, posting a batting average of .301, with 3 homeruns and 15 RBI. The 2014 season was a different story as he hit .319 en route to winning the National League batting title with the Colorado Rockies. It was a comeback season for Morneau as he also hit 17 homeruns, drove in 82 RBI, and posted an OPS of .860. There is no question of his offensive ability, the left-handed hitter knows how to hit and can offer any team a quality bat in the middle of the lineup.
Health is the biggest question with Morneau and concussion issues are troubling. If the former four-time all-star can get his head under control and return to his 2014 form, he will be a steal for whatever team signs him. The native Canadian might be best suited for the American League, which would enable him to act as a designated hitter. An incentive laden one-year deal sounds appropriate for a guy with a unique injury history. The potential for a reunion in Colorado is likely but the Brewers, Cardinals, Rays, Angels, and Orioles could be potential landing spots.
