10 biggest bargains in MLB free agency
6. Tim Lincecum
The San Francisco Giants have moved on from Lincecum after signing Johnny Cueto and Jeff Samardzija. The former two-time Cy Young award winner finds himself in unfamiliar territory, after nine successful years with the Giants he is now a free agent. Coming off season-ending hip surgery and a dismal 2015 pitching performance The Freak is looking to reinvent himself elsewhere. All signs are pointing to a successful recovery but the real question will be what the thirty-one year old right-hander has left to offer. His whip-like and unique mechanics are starting to catch up to him in the form of a major dip in velocity. He still has great deception on all his pitches and throws a nasty change-up that hitters just can not seem to pick up.
Tim Lincecum could be the biggest steal of the offseason if all goes to well, but that is a big question mark. Assuming Lincecum’s hip surgery and rehab goes well it will be interesting to see how his winter workouts go and where his fastball velocity is at. An incentive laden one-year deal sounds like a good start to any team willing to take a chance on one of baseball’s most unique pitchers. The Padres, A’s, Mariners, Rays, and Astros could be potential landing spots.
