Here are the bowl results against the spread!
Sadly, another college football season has come to an end. It was a wild ride! That’s all fine and good, but I know what you’re really here for. You want to see if I bombed bowl season or if I reached my modest goal of 52.5% Let’s find out together!

Most of the world has moved on to the NBA or college basketball, but I am going to take a look back at my bowl predictions. They started nearly a month ago, so I forgot what I picked in a lot of these. Financewiz24 won the Fantasy CPR Readers Group in Capital One Bowl Mania. I finished second. Mostly because I moved Oregon up to my 42 point game after Boykin got suspended. I also missed my 41 point game when Nebraska beat UCLA. I didn’t do too badly all things considered.
Here are the picks in case you missed them. This will also include the Army-Navy game to make sure that I didn’t miss any!
Here are the bowl results against the spread to finalize the 2015 college football season. Winners against the spread are in BOLD.
Army vs. Navy(-22.5): MISS! Yeah, I knew better.
Arizona(-8.5) vs. New Mexico: HIT! I was sweating this one. That half did me well, and trust me, I would need it.
BYU vs. Utah(-2.5): MISS! This could have been much worse considering Utah scored all 35 points in the first ten minutes of the game. That is no consolation to me, of course.
Ohio vs. Appalachian State(-7.5): MISS! Ohio didn’t win, but they came really close. Of course, they were nowhere near getting covered by two scores either.
San Jose State(-2.5) vs. Georgia State: MISS! This was the first of the three 5-7 teams to take the field. All three won, but still didn’t finish the season with a winning record.
Arkansas State vs. Louisiana Tech(-1.5): MISS! I knew better than this too. I put more stock into records against winning teams than I did the talent on the field. This was never really close.
Western Kentucky(-2.5) vs. South Florida: HIT! This was a shootout like expected. Watch out for USF next year. They got really good in the second half of the season.
Akron vs. Utah State(-7.5): MISS! Akron crashed Chuckie’s going away party with their first ever bowl win.
Toledo vs. Temple(-2.5): MISS! Temple stumbled to the end as well, capped with a 15 point loss to the Rockets.
Boise State(-9.5) vs. Northern Illinois: HIT! I should have put five points on this one. Boise has had some bad games this year, and that kept me from doing it, but they were firing on all cylinders in this one, and will be a favorite to go to a New Year’s Six next year.
Georgia Southern vs. Bowling Green(-7.5): MISS! This was quite a show by the Eagles. They shut down the high powered Bowling Green offense, and ran wild on the defense.
Middle Tennessee State vs. Western Michigan(-5.5): HIT! I should have put this higher in my Bowl Mania picks. This was one of the biggest mismatches of bowl season.
Cincinnati vs. San Diego State(-2.5): HIT! I thought the game would be close. The Aztecs had other ideas.
Connecticut vs. Marshall(-4.5): MISS! I should have known it was too much for UConn’s offense to score more than ten points.
Miami(FL) vs. Washington State(-2.5): HIT! Every time Miami shows up in the Sun Bowl, it snows. In Texas!
Washington(-8.5) vs. Southern Mississippi: MISS! I really thought Washington would have trouble covering this. Their young talent on offense has finally learned how to move the ball with regularity. It could be an interesting Pac 12 North race next year.
Indiana(-2.5) vs. Duke: I blame the officials for this one, and it wouldn’t be the most poorly officiated game of bowl season (unfortunately). Actually, they only blew one call. The field goal that would have given the Hoosiers (and me) a three point victory at the end of regulation.
Virginia Tech(-13.5) vs. Tulsa: MISS! The irony that a team known for defense under its iconic coach gave up 52 points in his last game is not lost on me. This was the highest scoring game of bowl season by a long shot.
UCLA(-6.5) vs. Nebraska: MISS! Well, you could tell that UCLA really wasn’t interested in anything this game had to offer….
Navy(-3.5) vs. Pittsburgh: HIT! The easiest money of the bowls. Unless you bet on Boise….
Central Michigan vs. Minnesota(-5.5): HIT! The Gophers finally won a bowl! This will be a sneaky team in the Big Ten Weak…..er…..West next year.
California(-6.5) vs. Air Force: HIT! I went back and forth on this game a couple of times. It turns out it was an easy pick. I expected more of a fight from Air Force.
North Carolina(-3.5) vs. Baylor: MISS! So…..Baylor is missing more than half of their offense, and they set a bowl record for rushing yards? Makes perfect sense…..
Nevada vs. Colorado State(-3.5): MISS! Yeah, I should have known better than to put this much stock into the Rams.
LSU(-7.5) vs. Texas Tech: HIT! This was a dream matchup for LSU and it showed. I hope you bet big on this one!
Auburn(-3.5) vs. Memphis: MISS! Paxton Lynch’s draft stock had to take a hit after this underwhelming performance.
North Carolina State vs. Mississippi State(-5.5): HIT! You had to know that Dak Prescott was going to shine in his last collegiate game.
Texas A&M vs. Louisville(-4.5): MISS! I should have known better here as well. Kevin Sumlin will open the season on the hot seat, and with as brutal as the SEC West schedule is, he will be lucky to make it through the season without winning at least one game he shouldn’t.
USC(-3.5) vs. Wisconsin: MISS! This was another black eye for the Pac 12 in the postseason. The Trojans didn’t look as disinterested as their crosstown rival, but they didn’t look good either.
Houston vs. Florida State(-6.5): MISS! I am still surprised at what Houston did to the Seminoles’ vaunted defense. They certainly proved they belonged in this game.
Oklahoma(-3.5) vs. Clemson: MISS! I was blinded by the Big 12. That’s my story. Oklahoma didn’t show up for this game. Clemson dominated on both lines, and I didn’t see a Clemson ball carrier go down on first contact until the fourth quarter. The Sooners are lucky they didn’t lose by more, because they were definitely outplayed by more than the scoreboard indicated.
Michigan State vs. Alabama(-9.5): MISS! Now that is how you make a statement.
Northwestern vs. Tennessee(-8.5): MISS! This wasn’t even close. I put way too much stock into Northwestern’s win over Stanford in September.
Michigan(-4.5) vs. Florida: HIT! Another bowl game, another defense from the state of Florida exposed.
Notre Dame vs. Ohio State(-4.5): HIT! This game between October playoff favorites wasn’t even close. Ohio State dominated an undermanned Notre Dame squad.
Stanford(-6.5) vs. Iowa: HIT! This was Stanford making a statement about how the Pac 12 will be won next year. I honestly expected a little more from Iowa, but they were out of this one very early on.
Oklahoma State vs. Mississippi(-7.5): HIT! This was also a gimme. Oklahoma State was overmatched badly down the stretch. They were here as well.
Georgia(-6.5) vs. Penn State: HIT! The only reason this game was close is because Christian Hackenburg got hurt, and Penn State’s offense played very well without him in there. Tell me again why he is an NFL quarterback? I forget every time I watch him play….
Arkansas(-12.5) vs. Kansas State: HIT! The Big 12 got really bad draws for much of bowl season. I honestly thought they were only going to win one game. This was another gimme.
Oregon(-7.5) vs. TCU: MISS! You saw first hand just how much Vernon Adams meant to the Ducks this year. The Ducks managed to blow a 31-0 lead with Jeff Lockie at quarterback for one of the worst bowl meltdowns of all time. Oh, did we mention that TCU was without Travone Boykin as well? This should never have happened. Oregon could be in trouble if Helfrich can’t land another transfer to quarterback this team before next year.
West Virginia(-1.5) vs. Arizona State: HIT! The halves were good to me in bowl season!
I went 19-23 in the bowls against the spread, counting the Army-Navy game. That puts my season total at 400-366 for a total of 52.2%. I fell just short of 52.5%, but it is still a successful season, especially under the points system.
Here is the final tally of the points system. The season totals are in parenthesis:
1. 0-0 (38-36) +2
2. 6-5 (113-108) +10
3. 6-7 (136-132) +12
4. 3-7 (79-63) +64
5. 4-4 (34-27) +35
I lost 17 points this week, but still finished the season with 123 points. If every point is worth $1, I came out $123 dollars ahead. And that is betting on every single game, which nobody does!
It was a wild, and successful ride this year. I will be back in August to do this again next year, and I will be shooting for that elusive 55% again! I hope you enjoyed the season. I sure did!
