No. 16 Iowa Hawkeyes vs No. 4 Michigan State Spartans

Taking down Michigan State for its first loss of the season was quite an accomplishment for the Iowa Hawkeyes and a major reason as to why they’re No. 16 in the country at this point in the year. Not too long ago, Iowa was 3-2 to start the season after home losses to Dayton and Notre Dame, but have since won 9-of-10 games and is in first place in the Big Ten.

Jarrod Uthoff has been a prime Big Ten player of the year candidate, leading the first-place Hawkeyes with 18.6 points per game along with 6.1 rebounds. Adam Woodbury is going to need to be a bigger presence in the post as his 6.2 rebounds per game are barely good for tops on the team and the 7-footer is averaging just 8.5 points.

Michigan State is having a whale of a season. Coming off a Final Four run last season, the Spartans have been pleasantly surprised with their 16-1 start to the 2015-16 season despite losing Travis Trice and Branden Dawson from last year’s squad.

Last time the Hawkeyes faced the Spartans, Denzel Valentine was still on the mend, looking to get healthy before conference play was in full swing. He’s now back and healthy and put up 10 points, four rebounds and four assists in his first game since returning. Valentine is quite possibly the top Big Ten player of the year candidate, averaging 17.8 points, 7.9 rebounds and 6.8 assists per game.
