Grizzlies guard Mario Chalmers buried a crazy game-winning shot to beat the Pistons

The Memphis Grizzlies up eight points on the Detroit Pistons going into the fourth quarter on Thursday night, but the Pistons mounted a furious comeback in the final period that left the two teams knotted in the final second. That’s when the unlikely hero in Grizzlies guard Mario Chalmers came to the rescue with one of the most unlikely plays possible.

Chalmers was trying to create a shot from the top of the key, but he lost control of the ball and sent it rolling right by the right elbow. He ran and picked it up and hoisted up an off-balance shot just as time was about to expire. Somehow, he got that shot to fall beautifully as the buzzer sounded to give Memphis the 103-101 victory:

Chalmers making that shot is one of the most unlikely things that I could imagine happening in that moment. He has to be one of the most enigmatic players in the entire league, capable of big moments like this and capable of deservedly getting chewed out by every single one of his teammates.

That game-winner capped off a huge night for the backup Memphis guard. He finished the evening with 25 points, eight assists, four steals, and three rebounds in the victory. However, the first 23 points of the night weren’t as impressive or important as the final two.
