Alex Smith knows how to scramble out of the pocket, and continues to surprise everyone with his speed.
One thing that always gets brushed under the rug about Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith is just how fast he is. Then again, everything about Alex Smith is an afterthought it seems, as he’s a guy who has played his entire career under the radar.
He’s proving that once thanks to his late game performance in the AFC Divisional round against the New England Patriots. In the third quarter, Smith took intense pressure and a broken play with stride — turning it into an impressive play.
Rather than take a sack, Smith scrambled out of the pocket and hit his man way downfield to keep the drive alive.
The play in of itself is impressive and highlights just how underrated Smith is as a quarterback. He’s never mentioned with the likes of studs like Brady, Manning or Rodgers — yet he has the talent to match.
Smith hasn’t lost a game in months — something that neither Brady, Manning or Rodgers can say.
Not only was this play impressive, but it kept a touchdown drive alive. We didn’t know it at the time, but the Chiefs would go on to score after this amazing play — something that brought them back into the contest in a big way. Just when the momentum has seemingly shifted all the way to the Patriots, Smith reminded us that he’s one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL and it’s your fault for not noticing.
