The Oklahoma Sooners survived an upset bid from West Virginia thanks to a Khadeem Latting tip-in
The Oklahoma Sooners knew that the West Virginia Mountaineers were going to push them to the limit on Saturday afternoon. West Virginia had already beaten the No. 1-ranked Kansas Jayhawks earlier in the week and were looking to take down No. 2 in the Sooners. However, Oklahoma big man Khadeem Lattin wasn’t about to let an in-conference upset happen to his team on Saturday.
With just seconds left on the clock and the score tied at 68-68, Oklahoma guard Jordan Woodard went on the attack to try and knock down the game-winning bucket. His attempt was no good, but the energetic Lattin came flying in to get a hand on the rebound and put it through the cylinder with less than three seconds remaining:
As you can see, the Mountaineers tried to get one last full-court attempt off to pick up the win, but it was to no avail as the Sooners avoided suffering the same fate as Kansas.
Lattin finished the day with seven points and eight rebounds against West Virginia, but none were bigger than his last of each. Now it would appear that Oklahoma is headed for a No. 1-overall ranking when the new polls come out. At the rate that No. 1 has been getting knocked off this season, though, I can’t be sure that’s a good thing for the Sooners.
