Larry Fitzgerald came just a few yards short of ending overtime against the Packers on one play

The Arizona Cardinals allowed Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers to complete a Hail Mary pass as time expired (stop me if you’ve heard that one before) that, after the Mason Crosby extra point, tied the game and sent it to overtime. However, Carson Palmer and Larry Fitzgerald almost ended the game on the first play of the extra period.

The Cards won the coin toss and elected to receive. On the first play from scrimmage in overtime, Palmer immediately felt pressure from Green Bay. Even though he’s not known for his mobility, he bought enough time to throw across his body and across the field to Fitzgerald. The veteran star receiver through stiff-arms and cuts then torched the Packers defense and came up just short of ending the game on one play:

Arizona looked for a fade to Fitzgerald on the right side of the end zone, but it was no good. Bruce Arians then dug deep into his Kangol of tricks and found a shovel pass play to Fitzgerald that sent him up a gaping hole in the middle of the line and into the end zone to win the game:

Of course this game ended that way. Everything about the matchup was simply remarkable and near unbelievable and to have a Hail Mary force overtime and then one receiver end it all is only fitting.

The Cardinals now move to the NFC Championship game against the winner of the Seattle Seahawks vs. Carolina Panthers matchup. If that title game is half as crazy as this one, everyone needs to buckle in.
