Everyone (yes, I’m looking at you) jumped to some form of “it’s basketball season!” in the wake of the college football campaign wrapping up earlier in the week, but the diehards have been here from the beginning. To be fair, the NBA has transformed itself into a year-long league between the riveting free agency period, the annual NBA Draft and even Las Vegas Summer League, but with extra eyeballs on the product, there is a lot to catch up on for some sports fans.

If you’re looking to catch up on the top of the league, though, you’ve come to the wrong place.

This is our weekly look at the dregs of the NBA and the race for ping-pong balls in the 2016 NBA Draft, and every seven days, we chronicle what has transpired and which teams are plummeting toward the basement. It may not seem fun, but trust us, there is all of the intrigue that you can handle.

Let’s take a look at this week’s rankings, coming at you in descending order.

5. team. 20.
The Lakers are, once again, looking like the Lakers. Los Angeles won three straight as the calendar shifted from 2015 to 2016, but since that time, the Lakers have lost five of six and the team holds a three-game “lead” in the race for the worst record in the Western Conference.

During that six-game stretch, the offense (98.0 points per 100 possessions) has regressed in a big way, and if not for the horrid play of some other teams in the NBA, the Lakers would be catching more flack. Byron Scott continues to preside over a mess, and the Lakers are reminding everyone of that reality.
. (9-32). Previous: . Los Angeles Lakers
