NHL Trade: Pittsburgh Penguins acquire Carl Hagelin from Anaheim Ducks for David Perron and Adam Clendening
The Anaheim Ducks have traded forward Carl Hagelin to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for forward David Perron and Adam Clendening
The Anaheim Ducks have been desperately trying to acquire more offense this season as they were expected to be Stanley Cup favorites this year, but have been disappointing thanks to one of the lowest scoring offenses in the NHL. To help fix things, they have acquired forward David Perron from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for forward Carl Hagelin.
From the Penguins official website:
"The 5-foot-11, 186-pound forward was traded to Anaheim after spending the past four seasons with the New York Rangers. Hagelin appeared in 266 career games with the Rangers, collecting 58 goals and 130 points while finishing with a plus-57. He notched 26 points (12G-14A) in 73 playoff games in four-consecutive postseason berths with New York. He has 105 points (46G-59A) in 221 career games against Eastern Conference opponents."
This trade helps the Pittsburgh Penguins long-term and short-term. Carl Hagelin should be a great fit in Pittsburgh. At worst, he’ll be a better fit in Pittsburgh than David Perron, who was never a good fit in Pittsburgh and he struggled while with the Penguins. Hagelin’s speed should fit head coach Mike Sullivan’s system very well.
This trade helps the Ducks because they get rid of Hagelin’s contract. Hagelin didn’t pan out as expected with the Ducks and Perron should be a better fit and he’ll be a free agent after this season.
