Ohio State Buckeyes vs No. 3 Maryland Terrapins

Coming into the 2015-16 season, Thad Matta knew that he would have to find some scoring from his otherwise unproven, young Ohio State Buckeyes team. Ohio State got off to a slow start to the year, going just 4-5 in its first nine games, but the Buckeyes have since rebounded, winning eight of nine games and sitting in second place in the Big Ten.

Marc Loving has taken over as the team’s leader, averaging 14.6 points and 5.7 rebounds per game, but this team doesn’t have that go-to scorer that it used to even a year ago with D’Angelo Russell. Keita Bates-Diop, JaQuan Lyle and Jae’Sean Tate are also averaging in double figures for the Buckeyes, but still no go-to guy in the bunch.

If the Buckeyes are going to make a run at the tourney this season, beating a team like Maryland will be key. The Terrapins are ranked No. 3 in the country, but are coming off their first conference loss of the season at Michigan on Tuesday. The Terrapins have been narrowly skating by inferior opponents this season and that might start catching up to them if they don’t get it together.

The talent on Maryland is endless when talking about Melo Trimble, Diamond Stone, Rasheed Sulaimon, Jake Layman and Robert Carter. A majority of those guys will be playing in the NBA in a year or two while the Terrapins are looking to win their first Big Ten title as the newest members of the conference.
