Houston Rockets vs Los Angeles Lakers

After firing head coach Kevin McHale in the first month of the season, all hope seemed to be lost for the Houston Rockets and the immense amount of talent that wasn’t being utilized. However, this team just won’t go away and they’ve improved to 21-20 after a poor start and are in prime position to make a playoff push in the second half of the season.

None of that would have been possible without James Harden’s great play on the offensive side of the ball, averaging 27.6 points and 6.7 assists per game, but his 32 percent three-point shooting is not helping matters. Dwight Howard has also played well, but not like his usual dominant self, averaging 14.2 points and 11.9 rebounds per game.

The Los Angeles Lakers, on the other hand, are easily the worst team in the Western Conference, sitting at just 9-32 — also the second-worst record in the entire NBA. Kobe Bryant’s sendoff season hasn’t gone quite as planned as his beloved Lakers will likely be spectators during playoff time, ending his career a couple months early.

Bryant is averaging a team-high 17.0 points and 3.4 assists while shooting just about 35 percent from the field. The veteran superstar is not playing like himself this season, but that hasn’t much mattered as the Lakers just don’t have the depth to contend in the West. With guys like Jordan Clarkson, D’Angelo Russell and Julius Randle, the future is bright, though.
