Blues forward Alex Steen scored on an empty net thanks to a brain fart from Jeff Zatkoff

The St. Louis Blues have had trouble scoring lately. Forward Alex Steen was one of the most cursed with no goals in his previous nine games entering Monday’s matchup against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Steen ended his goal drought with one of the easiest goals that he’ll ever score. It was basically on an empty net thanks to some awful awareness from Penguins goalie Jeff Zatkoff.

There is no reason for Zatkoff to be that far out of his crease. Absolutely none. Give credit to the Blues for taking advantage of such a huge mistake. When you’re struggling, you’ve got to take advantage of those kinds of situations. Zatkoff couldn’t have made it much easier for Steen. Steen basically had an empty net to shoot at.

That was Alex Steen’s 14th goal of the season and his 40th point. He is second on the Blues in points and goals to Vladimir Tarasenko. The St. Louis Blues must start scoring if they want to contend for a Stanley Cup. Getting Steen going would going a long way to helping them achieve that goal. The Blues rely way too much on Tarasenko, so any secondary scoring they can get helps.
