Carolina Panthers defensive end Jared Allen is doubtful for Sunday’s NFC Championship Game against the Arizona Cardinals.

It’s beginning to look like the Carolina Panthers will indeed be without defensive end Jared Allen on Sunday when the team hosts the Arizona Cardinals in the NFC Championship Game. It was initially believed that Allen had fractured a bone in his foot during the Panthers’ win against the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Divisional round on Sunday.

According to Joe Person, Allen indeed has a fracture in his foot and is doubtful to play against the Cardinals.

Allen has had two sacks with the Panthers ever since he was acquired from the Chicago Bears early in the season. While his numbers don’t jump off the page, he is a big veteran presence and having as many healthy players as possible for the NFC Championship is imperative.

The Panthers have already had to deal with some injuries to veterans this season, including recently losing cornerback Charles Tillman for the year. Each time that they have lost someone, the team has seemed to get even stronger and bounce back even tougher against adversity.

They’re going to have their hands full with an Arizona team that likes to get the ball out quick. Not having Allen out there will mean that the rest of the guys up front will have to step it up even more in their pursuit of Carson Palmer.

The good news for the Panthers is that they still have a ferocious front seven that wants to go out and prove that they are the best in the NFC.
