JR Smith was ejected on Monday night for running through a Harrison Barnes screen too aggressively.

JR Smith was having a solid game for the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday night against the Golden State Warriors, but he opened the third quarter with some frustration. The Cavaliers found themselves down by 25-plus points and Golden State had the ball, Barnes tried to set a pick for Steph Curry to drain a three, but JR Smith was having none of that.

"JR Smith trucks Harrison Barnes running through screen, assessed flagrant 2 and ejected https://t.co/Kax6fl95Hj— The Cauldron (@TheCauldron) January 19, 2016"

It’s unclear whether Smith was trying to show off his hard-hitting ability to play football for the Browns. Heck, Smith probably showed more aggressiveness than any Browns player did all season long.

To assess a flagrant II and toss JR from the game seemed to be a bit excessive, but it was clear he had no intent of trying to get around the screen and he saw it coming from a mile away. Smith just plowed through Barnes and didn’t even try to argue the call.

Sure, the Cleveland fans disagreed with the call, but the Cavaliers players were getting a bit frustrated up to that point anyway as the Warriors had 70 points at halftime and a 24-point lead. Smith’s absence will only hurt the Cavs’ chances at making any sort of comeback as he scored 14 points and was making some plays on his own.

Was this the right call or did the referees get this one wrong?
