Oregon State forward Jarmal Reid was ejected on Sunday night after intentionally tripping a referee.

During a close showdown between Oregon State and Utah, Beavers forward Jarmal Reid made a very, very bad decision. He was reportedly upset about a missed call from earlier in the game, and after tumbling to the hardwood, stuck his leg out as the referee ran by.

The incident happened late in the game, while the Beavers and Utes were tied at 52 points apiece with just under three minutes to play. Especially in a tight conference matchup, it’s usually best to keep your emotions in check instead of letting frustration get the best of you. Clearly Reid never got that memo.

Reid, who was averaging 4.5 points and 1.9 rebounds per game on the season, could face further punishment from the NCAA after referee Tommy Nunez tossed him from the game with a flagrant-2 foul. The only problem will be determining the punishment, seeing as this is a fairly unprecedented situation. I mean, it’s not every day you see a player who’s brazen enough to trip a referee.

Here’s another look at the play that infuriated Reid to the point of doing what was arguably one of the dumbest things any college basketball player has ever done on the court.

Maybe don’t trip the referee next time? It may have changed the outcome, as the Utes went on a 7-1 run to seal the victory after Reid’s departure.
