Utah Jazz point guard Trey Burke hit a big three late in the fourth quarter to send the Jazz to overtime against the Charlotte Hornets.
There has been multiple overtime games in the NBA on Martin Luther King Day. The Utah Jazz and the Charlotte Hornets became the latest game to go to overtime on Monday, after a bold strategy by the Jazz and a big shot by Trey Burke.
After the Jazz decided to not take a timeout with just seconds remaining in the game, Gordon Hayward quickly rushed down the court with the ball and found his point guard Burke in the corner.
Rather than getting set or having the ball up court, Burke just let the shot fly and he nailed the big three over two outstretched Hornets defenders.
"Clutch!"
Ever since college, Burke has made a career out of hitting the big shots in the clutch. As Burke released the shot, he knew he had made it and watched it go down in its entirety.
It’s a risky proposition in basketball to not get set and rush a shot, but this was simply a great play that began with Hayward finding the correct option on the court.
While Burke could have pulled it back out and reset the play, he knew there was no better opportunity for an open look than the one he had in the present.
Burke has ice in his veins.
