Khadeem Lattin’s block against Iowa State turned into a wide open three pointer for the Cyclones.
Monday night’s matchup between No. 1 Oklahoma and No. 19 Iowa State at the Hilton Coliseum was one of those contests in which the whole nation tuned in to see a potential upset take place. This could be the second consecutive week in which the No. 1 team in college basketball falls via upset in the Big 12.
Khadeem Lattin’s block against Iowa State turned into a wide open three pointer for the Cyclones in a close contest.
This was just a typical case of Hilton magic that the Coliseum is known for in big games. If Iowa State wins by one or two points, this three-pointer by Georges Niang can be looked back at as one of the crucial moments of the game, despite taking place in just the first half.
Oklahoma is going to be one of the best teams in the country for the remainder of the year, but if an upset happens, it won’t be surprising since the Cyclones are one of the top teams in the Big 12 as well.
Niang is the senior leader of this team who is trying to lead the Cyclones on a deep run in March and not get knocked out early like they had been for a couple years. In fact, Niang has gone out with injury, stymying recent runs by the Cyclones in March.
Heads up play by Niang and Khadeem Lattin will think twice before viscously blocking the ball nearly through the backboard next time and just swat it into the stands.
