According to a statement released by Real Madrid on Tuesday, the team’s star Welshman, Gareth Bale, has been diagnosed with a muscle injury.
It had been a difficult start to the campaign for Real Madrid, struggling to adjust to life under Rafa Benitez. The Spanish tactician was let go earlier this month, though, with club legend, Zinedine Zidane, taking over behind the bench. After two games under Zidane’s tutelage, the club have outscored their opponents by a total of 10-1.
However, Los Blancos did get some bad news on Tuesday though, with tests confirming that Gareth Bale has suffered a muscle injury.
“After tests on Gareth Bale at the University Hospital Sanitas La Moraleja, the player has been diagnosed with a muscle injury in the soleus of the right leg,” a club statement read, via Goal. “The severity of the injury will depends how it evolves.”
Bale opened the scoring on Sunday against Sporting Gijon before being replaced by Jesé at halftime. The Welshman has had a history of calf problems, with this being the sixth time he has injured the muscle. He now faces a race against time to be fit for the club’s Round of 16 UEFA Champions League battle against Roma in February.
The 26-year-old arrived to the Santiago Bernabeu from Tottenham Hotspur in an £86 million move back in September 2013, and helped the club to win the Champions League in his first season with the club. Real Madrid currently sit third in the La Liga table, behind both Atletico Madrid and Barcelona. They will be in action next on Sunday against Real Betis, with Bale already ruled out of the match.
