Pelicans reserve forward Alonzo Gee rocked the rim with a huge putback dunk against Detroit

Alonzo Gee hasn’t exactly played a major role coming off of the bench for the New Orleans Pelicans over the first half of the 2015-16 NBA season. He’s been buried in an oddly crowded, oddly constructed frontcourt rotation, despite having shown throughout his career that he can contribute at some level to a quality NBA team. Even still, that didn’t stop him from having one of the highlights of the night on Thursday against the Detroit Pistons.

As the Pelicans were trying to close out the Pistons late in the fourth quarter, New Orleans superstar Anthony Davis tried to bury a mid-range jumper that was no good. However, Gee came crashing into the boards and rose up to grab the rebound and then bring it crashing down through the rim for a thunderous putback slam:

Well that just seems like a mean thing to do when you’re already up on a team. They’re already dead in the water; no need to start beating the Pistons with a hammer at that point.

Gee certainly gave fans something to remember in New Orleans beyond just the win with that dunk. However, the Pelicans may want to look at trying to Gee more involved if he’s going to play with that type of intensity and athleticism. This team was supposed to be in playoff contention, but they need to switch something up if they’re going to make that a reality.
