The Chicago Blackhawks have traded Ryan Garbutt to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for Jiri Sekac

The Anaheim Ducks have been very active on the trade market as of late. They’ve been trying to explore ways to bring in more offense as they try to make the playoffs in a very weak Pacific Division. They have made a trade with the Chicago Blackhawks. The Ducks have traded forward Jiri Sekac to the Blackhawks in exchange for forward Ryan Garbutt.

Both teams are giving up a young forward who just hasn’t worked out for them. Jiri Sekac was great for the Canadiens and Ducks during the 2014-2015 season but he has failed to fit in this season. He has just three points in 22 games while averaging 12 minutes and 11 seconds of playing time per game. Ryan Garbutt should be a better fit in their offense.

Garbutt was sent to the Blackhawks in the Patrick Sharp trade. He has two goals and four assists in 43 games this season for Chicago. Like Sekac, Garbutt wasn’t a great fit in Chicago. Sekac should fit in well with the Blackhawks thanks to his speed and skating ability. He had 23 points in 69 games last season so maybe the trade will help him be productive again.

This is a trade that is in effect a swap of bottom-six forwards that should help both sides. Garbutt is a perfect fit on the Ducks fourth line and Sekac should do very well playing on the Hawks third or fourth line.
