Neymar’s father has denied all reports suggesting that his son met with Real Madrid.
Since arriving to the Camp Nou, Neymar has been able to win Important trophies like a UEFA Champions League, a La Liga title, and a Club World Cup. His club won the treble last season and he was named as a finalist for the prestigious Ballon d’Or award.
As a result, it is difficult for anyone to imagine that the Brazilian star would want to leave his current club to play anywhere else on the planet. However, reports began to emerge out of Spain this week that the 23-year-old had met with representatives from Real Madrid before the Ballon d’Or gala. Rumors that Neymar’s father and agent quickly dismissed.
“The meeting in Madrid is a silly invention,” Neymar Sr told Mundo Deportivo, via Goal. “We were all together in the same hotel, the Barca and Madrid parties, and we greeted everyone, but the meeting is an invention.”
“Andre Cury [an agent who usually handles Barcelona’s affairs in South America] is a Barca employee, so how are we going to meet with Madrid if he was there? It does not make any sense!”
Despite all the rumors linking the Brazilian away from Catalonia, Neymar has been in blistering form for his club this season, scoring an astounding 16 goals and nine assists in 17 league matches. He also has two goals and three assists in Champions League competition.
Barcelona currently sit second in the La Liga table, but have played one less game than the league leaders, Atletico Madrid. They have 45 points from 19 league matches, and will be back in action on Saturday morning, taking on Malaga at 10 a.m. ET.
Neymar netted in Barcelona’s midweek Copa del Rey victory against Athletic Bilbao, scoring the winning goal in the 25th minute.
