Ronaldinho told reporters on Thursday, that he won’t be retiring and that he will determine his future after carnival.
Ronaldinho may no longer be in the prime of his career, but there is still no shortage of clubs lining up to secure the Brazilian’s services. The 35-year-old is still one of the most recognizable soccer players on the planet, and can deliver a free kick like most could only dream of.
On Thursday, while in the United States playing for current club, Fluminense, in the Florida Cup, Ronaldinho denied reports that he would soon be retiring. He discussed his future with members of the media, suggesting that he will decide his future after carnival.
“There is a lots to come in 2016,” he told reporters, via Goal. “I’ll decide what to do next after carnival. For now, I plan to travel the world to promote football but now is not the time to stop. I will play for a little longer.
“It felt good to feel the affection of the fans [in the USA]. It made me very happy. Now I have to get on with my life and do my best to repay what they have given me.”
Since leaving Europe to return back to South America in 2011, the Brazilian has featured for the likes of Flamengo, Atleico Mineiro, Queretaro, and the aforementioned Fluminense. The 2005 Ballon d’Or win has accomplished almost everything on a soccer pitch, winning a World Cup, Copa America, Confederations Cup, UEFA Champions League title, and a plethora of domestic trophies.
While Ronaldinho has played for clubs across the globe, he has yet to play in Major League Soccer. There is little doubt that fans across North America would love to see the Brazilian playing professionally in MLS, but it remains to be seen whether any club from the league will be able to lure the legend.
