Secret document surrounding Gareth Bale’s transfer to Real Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur have been leaked.
On Thursday, it was revealed that secret document surrounding Gareth Bale’s big-money move to Real Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur have been leaked. The website, Football Leaks, has put the documents online for anyone to read and in doing so, have angered both the player and the club.
According to the leaked document, the star Welshman cost €100,759,418 ($108.93 million) as opposed to the €91.59 million ($98.98 million) that had been claimed in a press release at the time of the transfer. This would mean that Bale cost more than Cristiano Ronaldo, who the Spanish giants paid around €96 million ($103. 69 million)for at the time.
In the six page document, it stipulates that Tottenham are not allowed to release any financial details of the transfer to the media, and that the London-based club to buy back the winger. They have 72 hours to match any offer put on the table for the star up until June 30, 2019.
Jonathan Barnett, the co-owner of Stellar Group – the soccer agency that brokered Bale’s transfer – has already come out to express his anger and frustration at the fact that the documents were able to get out to the public.
“There should be an inquiry and an independent investigation … I think it’s disgraceful that people can get hold of this sort of stuff. It shows complete disregard for both clubs and the player.” he told the Telegraph.
Just last month, Sunday Times correspondent Jonathan Northcroft claimed in an interview with BBC 5Live, that he had been instructed by Real Madrid not to discuss Bale’s transfer fee because it upset Cristiano Ronaldo. According to Northcroft, the club did everything in their power to keep the financial details quiet, with Ronaldo not happy that somebody else cost more than him.
