Charles Barkley discussed the Cleveland Cavaliers firing David Blatt and said that Blatt was set up for failure.
The Cleveland Cavaliers sent shock waves through the NBA on Friday, when they decided to fire head coach David Blatt. Blatt had led the Cavaliers to an NBA Finals and the best record in the Eastern Conference to date, but it never felt like his job was secure in Cleveland.
Inside the NBA analyst Charles Barkley was on NBA TV and discussed his thoughts on Blatt being fired. Barkley was sympathetic for Blatt and he told the show that he felt that Blatt was set up for failure from the beginning.

Barkley isn’t wrong on this point. When it comes to the Cavaliers and Blatt, from the very beginning of the association between both sides, it felt like Blatt’s job was never safe and that he and the rest of the team were never on the same page.
While part of that is roster issues and perhaps the wrong pieces in place, Barkley thinks Blatt was doomed from the start in Cleveland. Barkley was also asked what he thought of the report that LeBron James wasn’t consulted on the decision and he found it laughable.
Barkley might be one to say plenty of outlandish things and get himself in trouble, but this is one of his smartest takes yet. He like many don’t understand the firing, but he also had the foresight to see that things between the two were doomed from the beginning.
