Daria Gavrilova had a slip of the lips at the Australian Open.
Newly converted Aussie Daria Gavrilova continued her terrific run at the 2016 Australian Open by recording a dramatic three set win over No. 28 seed Kristina Mladenovic on Friday. But what grabbed attention more than her latest breakthrough victory was what she said in her post match interview.
While talking to Australian commentator and former player Rennae Stubbs after her win, Gavrilova was asked what she told herself to stay in the match by holding serve continuously to remain alive in the final set against Mladenovic. Suffice to say, it was an answer that went straight into the TMI Hall of Fame.

The answer was so shocking, light-hearted, unpredictable and staggering all simultaneously that fans’ reactions best summed up what people around the world were thinking.
Still the best reaction that represented everyone around the world to what Gavrilova said. #AusOpen pic.twitter.com/V54s4lIvyB

And Gavrilova’s instant reaction as to what came out of her mouth summed it up perfectly too.
To her amazing composure and credit, Stubbs followed that up to transition nicely from that viral moment by telling Gavrilova, “I’m not going to go there, you’re still young.”
The 21-year-old Gavrilova has been in a long term relationship with Australian male tennis player Luke Saville. Since Saville was not seen in the crowd when Gavrilova said that, it would have been interesting to see his response to that classic comment from his rather candid, loquacious girlfriend.
