After being fired by the Cleveland Cavaliers David Blatt issued a statement thanking the city of Cleveland.

The Cleveland Cavaliers shocked everyone in the NBA on Friday, when they decided to fire head coach David Blatt. In his season-and-a-half as head coach of the Cavaliers, Blatt had coached the Cavaliers to the NBA Finals and they had the best record in the Eastern Conference prior to Friday’s firing.

Despite those accomplishments, it always seemed as if the relationship between Blatt and the Cavaliers was rocky at best. For those that watched the Cavaliers play this season, it was clear that they weren’t executing on the level that they should be and things had been a struggle at times on the court.

The Cavaliers turned to Blatt’s lead assistant, Tyronn Lue, and gave him a multi-year contract to become the new head coach of the club.

Despite being fired, Blatt issued a classy statement through his representatives at Priority Sports about his departure from the Cavaliers and he wished the team all the best going forward.

Blatt has always been considered one of the classiest guys on the coaching circuit, so it should come as no surprise that he genuinely wishes the Cavaliers well. After the job that he did in his short time in Cleveland, there’s no doubt that many teams in need of a coach next season will give him a look.

With professionalism like he displayed in his exit, it’s hard not to root for the guy.
