Midseason Grades for Each NBA Team
The Denver Nuggets didn’t particularly do much this offseason to address any of the issues that made them a lottery team last year. Other than the addition of rookie point guard Emmanuel Mudiay, the Nuggets largely chose just to ride it out with the status quo and hope that a healthy Danilo Gallinari and Wilson Chandler would be enough to help them take at least somewhat of a step forward.
In all honesty, the Nuggets have been slightly more enjoyable to watch through the first half of this season than they were last year and have been marginally more successful in that plight. However, their gambling on the healthy of injury-prone players has not paid off as Chandler has already been ruled out for the rest of the season and Gallo has already missed chunks of time as well. Throw in the fact that Mudiay has joined those two veterans in terms of being sidelined by injuries and it’s been a tough run for Denver thus far.
The potential for this Nuggets team to at least be average is there, but they haven’t even been able to really do that through the first half of the season. They have some decisions to make regarding whether or not they want to make moves to try and pursue a playoff spot or just tank again for another lottery pick, but their first half of the season has been largely lackluster and deserves a grade to reflect that.
