Cleveland Cavaliers fans were not happy with the team’s performance on Saturday night.

On Friday, news broke that the Cleveland Cavaliers fired head coach David Blatt. This is despite a 30-11 record, which had the team on top of the Eastern Conference and you also have to consider that they made an NBA Finals appearance last season.

Cavs GM David Griffin would promote assistant coach Tyronn Lue to the head coach position and give him a new contract. He would take over for Saturday night’s game against the Chicago Bulls at home.

The Cavs had a rough first game under Lue. They were horrible at the free throw line, making only 6 of 19 at the charity stripe. Making only 4 of 22 three-point shots won’t help matters, either. They also scored a measly 14 points in the 1st quarter.

Given everything that has happened before the game, Cavs fans were expecting the promotion of Lue to spark this team. It’s crazy to be looking for that from a first place team, but after getting blown out by the Golden State Warriors and losing to the San Antonio Spurs, this team has seemingly pressed the panic button.

So, given the poor performance on Saturday, the fans serenaded the team with boos.

Not a good sign for the first game of what was supposed to be a new era. There is still plenty of time left in the season, but a team that has been great will need to make multiple adjustments going forward.
