The NBA has announced the starters for the upcoming 2016 All-Star game and each of the league’s 30 teams has completed at least 41 games. In short, we have reached the halfway point in the 2015-2016 season, and that is yet another reminder that we have enough data to really begin to draw conclusions about most squads.

While the majority of fans of pundits are focused on the top of the league, our task here is to evaluate the dregs of the NBA. More and more teams have an incentive to “tank” to improve draft position, and even those aren’t necessarily trying to lose are capable of incredible futility. Last week’s rankings can be found here, but each week is its own entity, and we’re back with another edition. Let’s roll through the teams beginning at number five and counting down to number one.

Previous: . Brooklyn Nets. 5. team. 147.
Things have calmed down a bit in Brooklyn after the Nets set their basketball operations department ablaze by parting ways their head coach (Lionel Hollins) and general manager (Billy King) nearly two weeks ago. Sadly for Nets fans, the play on the court has not rebounded.

Brooklyn has put together two separate five-game losing streaks in the recent past, with only a single win over the Knicks (on Jan. 13) between those skids. The current version is still in effect after the Nets were beaten soundly by the Utah Jazz on Friday night, and over that 11-game span, Brooklyn ranks as the second-worst team in the NBA.

The talent level available on this roster has never been promising and the future is, as widely discussed, particularly grim. There is evidence that the Nets have been battling and scrapping for wins this year, but the recent past is probably more representative of how things will go the rest of the way.
. (11-33)
