Eric Staal. 1. player. 109. . C/LW. Carolina Hurricanes

The move that makes the most sense for the Montreal Canadiens would be to trade for upcoming unrestricted free agent Eric Staal of the Carolina Hurricanes. Staal is the kind of player who the Habs could sign long-term as well since he should be a great fit in Montreal’s offense. Staal would solve the Habs issue of not having enough wings and would solidify their top two forward lines. With the return of Carey Price, the Habs could make a Cup run.

The biggest concern is that the Hurricanes might not be interested in trading Eric Staal since they are still very much in playoff contention. The Hurricanes have been playing very well lately and are very close to grabbing one of the two wild card spots. They might not want to trade him if they continue to play well. However, for the right price, Carolina should be willing to at least entertain trade offers.

If Marc Bergevin wants to keep his job, he has to upgrade his team. Should he trade for Staal and one of the other forwards on this list, Bergevin would at least give his head coach a fighting chance. Who knows? If Carey Price returns healthy and Bergevin makes the right moves, the Montreal Canadiens could win yet another Stanley Cup.
